When I asked Supervisory Park Ranger and Interpretive Specialist, Paul Zaenger what his favorite thing about Black Canyon of the Gunnison is, he responded, “Just one?”

Clearly in love with the place, he said that he enjoys going out in the evenings with his daughter for picnics – early mornings are another favorite time – to sit and watch the colors in the canyon. “Just sitting and listening and watching. There is a mental clearing that we don’t get to do enough when we are so busy with things. It’s good to just sit and be with a cool place.”
